If you use/need it a few times per year, then you could just activate it for those months at a total cost of ~$60/year. Nevertheless, it's hard to see how the month-to-month Illustrator CC plan is a bad deal for you.

So to add on other tools costs more – relatively speaking – unless you get the complete All Apps package for $50/month, in which case the per-tool price is even lower than the Photography plan. The reason is because it was originally a hugely-popular Black Friday special, that eventually became permanent. The CC Photography Plan is a fantastic deal. How is it a stupid business model? Creative Cloud now has over 10 million paid subscribers and Adobe as a company seems to be doing well with it.
ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR FREE TRIAL IS OVER BUT WANT FULL VERSION SOFTWARE
The CC model may work great for full-time creative professionals who use many applications on a daily basis and benefit from the always-up-to-date feature, but for those of us who use the software (except the Photography plan products, in my case) only occasionally and would be fine with the set of features we had several years ago, it is a slap in the face after literally decades of loyal use and purchasing. The trial expired after two days and now I am left high and dry, forced to either abandon the work I've already done or pay a ridiculous sum for a very brief period of use. I realized that the trial period would be sufficient for this project. I needed Illustrator for ONE project this week, and don't anticipate needing it again for months. I am increasingly hating Adobe as a direct result, and wanting any and all competitors to succeed brilliantly and strip market share from Adobe on a daily basis. I abhor Creative Cloud licensing (I have spent many thousands on Adobe products since 1996 I used to own Illustrator, but that has been stripped from me under this new business model (without support for previous versions under modern operating systems). What is particularly frustrating is that this forum is the only support option available to me as Illustrator is not in my paid plan.

There is no question about when it was downloaded and installed. None of the causes in that article apply to my situation. I tried to open it again today, Monday (that's two days later), and it now tells me that my trial has expired. I downloaded a trial of Illustrator on Saturday, and used it on Saturday. I just had the same thing happen to me, and this answer, while surely helpful for many situations, is entirely non-helpful for mine.
